How do fingerprick intolerance tests work?

12/12/2022 by Jack Barron

Do you ever feel like your stomach is always upset, no matter what you eat?

You might be experiencing a food intolerance or sensitivity. A finger prick blood test can detect these issues, and this article will discuss how they work.

Stay tuned to learn more.

What are Food Intolerances and Sensitivities?

Put simply, a food intolerance or sensitivity is your body’s negative reaction to a particular food or ingredient. This can manifest in a number of ways, including indigestion, bloating, diarrhoea, and headaches. Many assume they are allergic to certain foods when they are only intolerant or sensitive to them.

The traditional way to determine whether you have a food intolerance is to eliminate the suspected food from your diet (usually for a minimum of one month) and see if your symptoms improve. However, this can be a cumbersome and difficult process.

A finger prick test can take the guesswork out of identifying food intolerances and sensitivities; by testing for specific IgG antibodies in your blood, the test can reveal which foods your body is reacting to.

How do Finger Prick Blood Tests work to detect these conditions?

A finger prick blood test is a simple and effective way to test for food intolerances and sensitivities. The test will give you a positive or negative result for 40 food groups (57 foods in total).

It works by measuring the level of IgG antibodies in your blood. Your body produces IgG antibodies in response to exposure to a foreign substance, such as a food protein.

If you have a food intolerance or sensitivity, your body will produce higher IgG antibodies in response to exposure to the offending food.

The food intolerance blood test is quick and easy to do, and it can give you valuable information about which foods you may need to avoid.

What are some of the most common foods people are intolerant or sensitive to?
