Planning foreign travel isn’t the same as it used to be. Preparation is more important than ever. We can help.
If you are planning to travel overseas you’ll have a lot to think about. Where will you go? When will you go? How do you keep everyone happy? Where are the flop flops hiding? That sort of thing. Some of these questions are not as easy to answer as they used to be. You’re on your own with these ones, especially the flip flops, but there is a question that we can help you with…
How will you look after your health while you travel and what do you need to do to prepare?
Here are some of the answers.
Covid-19 Travel Tests
Some countries and airlines now require individuals to provide evidence of a negative SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) PCR test prior to travel. When considering where to travel check the most up to date information about which airlines and countries require a certificate. It is a reality of foreign travel for the foreseeable future that we are going to need to be more careful and provide proof that you are safe when you travel. For your own benefit and that of those travelling alongside you.
We provide a Fit-To-Fly Covid-19 home testing kit and international travel certificate which will help you prepare for a journey.

Travel vaccinations
Covid-19 isn’t the only infection we need to think about when we travel. There are are a plethora of infections diseases that travellers have had to vaccinate against long before the pandemic came along. Thankfully, effective vaccines exist and we stock a wide range that are often available at very short notice.
You can check which travel vaccines we provide and the prices here.
While we are thinking about preparing for travel it’s best to avoid the idea of short notice. Book yourself in for an appointment at our travel clinic at least 8 weeks before your travel. Some vaccines need to be given well in advance to allow your body to develop immunity, others involve a number of doses spread over several weeks or months. Don’t be one of the ones who get caught out. Book early. Get sorted and protect yourself and your family.
Our pharmacist clinicians can advise you about which travel vaccines you will need based upon your travel plans, administer the vaccines and provide essential travel advice about staying healthy while abroad. All part of the Broadway Pharmacy with Cure Clinic Travel Clinic service.
One last, but essential detail. If you aren’t 100% sure that your UK vaccinations are up to date double check with your GP surgery. It’s important that you are fully protected. For further information on travel vaccinations the NHS is a good source of reliable information. Take a look here.

Anti-malaria treatment
If you’ve not come across Malaria yet you are lucky in many ways. We won’t go into the uncomfortable details here. We’ll save those for the travel clinic. Suffice to say that malaria is a serious tropical disease that is spread by mosquitos. It can be fatal if it isn’t diagnosed and treated quickly. A single mosquito bite can be enough to cause infection. That is to sure ruin your holiday and much else besides. Luckily many cases of malaria can be avoided.
Malaria can be a problem in over 100 countries although some areas are higher risk than others including:
- Large areas of Africa
- Large areas of Asia
- Central and South America
- Parts of the Middle East
In other words some of the most interesting places to visit. How do you prepare? Well, there is a handy acronym for that. ABCD.
Awareness of risk – find out whether your plans put you in a malaria risk area at any point
Bite prevention – avoid getting bitten by using insect repellants, appropriate clothing and mosquito nets
Check whether you need to take anti-malaria tablets – the right ones, at the right time and finish the course
Diagnosis – if you do develop symptoms get medical help immediately
We can’t travel with you so you’ll have to look after D yourself, but you can massively reduce the chance of needing to by working through A, B and C with our help.
Our pharmacist clinicians can advise you about which anti-malarial tables you will need based on your travel plans, supply the relevant tablets and provide essential travel advice about staying healthy while abroad. Again, all part of the Broadway Pharmacy with Cure Clinic Travel Clinic service. For further information on malaria including those uncomfortable symptoms the NHS is a good source of reliable information. Take a look here.
