Hundreds of thousands of women experiencing menopause symptoms to get lower cost HRT
Hundreds of thousands of women who experience menopausal symptoms will now have access to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) at a lower cost. This new scheme will allow around 400,000 women in England to obtain a year’s worth of menopause prescription items for the price of two single prescription charges (currently £19.30) starting on April 1, 2023. The government has made this commitment as part of its efforts to reduce the cost and increase the accessibility of HRT for menopausal women.
The prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) will be valid for 12 months and can be used against a list of HRT prescription items without any limit on the number of times it can be used. Patients can use the certificate to obtain various HRT items such as patches, tablets, and topical preparations.
It is important to note that this certificate is exclusively for HRT medication and patients should assess whether the original prepayment certificate, which covers all NHS prescriptions, is better value for money.
